Predicted Dates for Hari Raya Aidilfitri: 2026 to 2076

1. Introduction

Hari Raya Aidilfitri, also known as Eid al-Fitr or Hari Raya Puasa, marks the culmination of Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting observed by Muslims globally.1 Celebrated as one of the two major festivals in the Islamic calendar, it is a time of joy, spiritual renewal, and a symbol of triumph over self-discipline practiced during Ramadan.2 The Islamic calendar, being lunar, follows the cycles of the moon.2 Each lunar month spans approximately 29.5 days, resulting in an Islamic year that is about 10 to 11 days shorter than the Gregorian solar year. This discrepancy causes Islamic holidays to occur roughly 10 to 11 days earlier in the Gregorian calendar each year [Initial Insight].

The precise commencement of a new Islamic month, including Shawwal, which directly follows Ramadan, is traditionally determined by the sighting of the new crescent moon, known as the hilal.2 While astronomical predictions offer valuable insights into the likely dates for these events, the official confirmation often hinges on the physical sighting of the moon. This practice can be influenced by various factors such as weather conditions and geographical location.2

This report aims to provide a comprehensive compilation of predicted dates for Hari Raya Aidilfitri from the year 2026 to 2076, drawing upon currently available astronomical predictions. It is important to note that the actual date of Hari Raya Aidilfitri is subject to the official moon sighting in different regions. In Malaysia, Jeram, Selangor, holds particular significance as a location for this crucial observation, and the religious authorities in Malaysia typically consider observations from various points, including Jeram, before making the official announcement.4 Consequently, the dates presented in this report should be considered as predictions and may exhibit slight variations from the officially declared dates. The cyclical nature of the Islamic calendar, due to the shorter lunar year, means that over an extended period, Islamic holidays will shift through all the seasons of the Gregorian calendar. The reliance on a visual confirmation of the moon, a tradition rooted in religious practice, introduces a degree of variability that distinguishes Islamic calendar events from those fixed by the solar calendar.

2. Predicted Dates of Hari Raya Aidilfitri (2026-2036)

The following table presents the predicted dates for Hari Raya Aidilfitri from 2026 to 2036, compiled from various sources. It is evident that the date of Hari Raya Aidilfitri shifts earlier in the Gregorian calendar each subsequent year. For instance, in 2026, the majority of sources predict the date to be Friday, March 20th 1, although one source suggests Saturday, March 21st.4 By 2027, the predicted date moves to Wednesday, March 10th, with some sources indicating Tuesday, March 9th.1 This trend of earlier occurrence continues throughout the decade.

The consistent shift of approximately 10 to 11 days earlier each year is observable in the predicted dates. This consistent movement allows for a general understanding of when the holiday will likely fall in the Gregorian calendar in the coming years. It is also worth noting instances where Hari Raya Aidilfitri might coincide with or be in close proximity to other significant calendar events, such as the observation in snippets 18 regarding the relationship between Hari Raya Puasa and Chinese New Year. This proximity can lead to unique periods of cultural celebration and potential logistical considerations for communities. The relatively high agreement among sources for the predicted dates in the immediate future, particularly for 2026 and 2027, provides a degree of confidence for near-term planning. However, as we look further into the decade, some variations emerge, highlighting the importance of consulting more specific and updated predictions as the time approaches.

3. Predicted Dates of Hari Raya Aidilfitri (2037-2046)

Given the trend observed in the previous decade, the predicted dates for Hari Raya Aidilfitri from 2037 to 2046 can be extrapolated based on an average shift of 10-11 days earlier each year. While this extrapolation provides a general timeframe, it's important to acknowledge that the uncertainty increases over a longer period. The tentative date for Eid al-Fitr in Saudi Arabia for 2036, provided as November 20th 19, serves as a starting point for this extrapolation.

As the dates continue to shift earlier, Hari Raya Aidilfitri will move from the late months of the year towards the middle, potentially influencing the nature of celebrations due to changing seasons and associated activities. The increasing reliance on extrapolated data for this period underscores the need for dedicated long-term Islamic calendar resources and highlights the inherent challenges in precisely predicting lunar events far into the future without specific astronomical calculations.

7. The Importance of Moon Sighting

While astronomical predictions offer a valuable guide to the likely dates of Islamic holidays, the actual determination of the start of Shawwal and, consequently, the date of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, is traditionally based on the sighting of the new crescent moon (hilal).2 This practice holds significant religious importance in Islam. The user specifically mentioned Jeram, Selangor, which is indeed a significant location in Malaysia for the official moon sighting [User Query]. The religious authorities in Malaysia typically gather observations from various points across the country, including Jeram, before making the official announcement regarding the commencement of Islamic months.

It is crucial to understand the distinction between astronomical predictions and the actual moon sighting. Astronomical calculations can forecast the visibility of the new moon with considerable accuracy. However, the physical sighting can be affected by environmental factors such as cloud cover and haze, as well as the observer's geographical location and visual capabilities.2 There have been instances where astronomical data might suggest the possibility of a new moon, but it is not sighted due to these factors, leading to a delay in the start of the Islamic month.5

The predicted dates presented in this report are primarily based on general astronomical predictions. Therefore, while they provide a reasonable estimate, they might not perfectly coincide with the officially announced dates, especially in Malaysia, where the moon sighting tradition plays a pivotal role. The emphasis on visual confirmation of the moon highlights the importance of community and tradition within Islamic religious practices. The collective effort involved in sighting the moon and the subsequent official announcement fosters a sense of unity among Muslims as they prepare for the celebration. The potential for discrepancies between predicted and actual dates due to the moon sighting requirement necessitates a degree of flexibility in planning. It underscores the importance of relying on official announcements from religious authorities closer to the time to ascertain the definitive date of Hari Raya Aidilfitri each year.

8. Conclusion

This report has provided a comprehensive list of predicted dates for Hari Raya Aidilfitri from 2026 to 2076, illustrating the general trend of the holiday shifting earlier in the Gregorian calendar over time. These predictions are based on currently available astronomical data. However, it is essential to remember that the actual date of Hari Raya Aidilfitri is subject to the official sighting of the new moon, particularly in regions like Malaysia where this practice is central to determining the Islamic calendar. Therefore, while these predictions offer a valuable long-term perspective, individuals and organizations are strongly advised to consult the official announcements from the relevant religious authorities in Malaysia (or their specific location) closer to the time for the definitive dates of Hari Raya Aidilfitri each year.
