Palestinian militant group pledges to ‘retaliate for this Zionist crime’


DAMASCUS, Syria - Hamas accused Israeli agents on Friday of assassinating a veteran operative of the Palestinian militant group, saying he was electrocuted last week in a Dubai hotel room.
The militant group vowed to retaliate.
It identified the man as Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, one of the founders of Hamas' military wing that has been responsible for hundreds of deadly attacks and suicide bombings targeting Israelis since the 1980s. It said he was 50 years old.

Assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh


Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, co-founder of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the paramilitary wing of the Islamist Palestinian group Hamas, was assassinated on 19 January, 2010 in a hotel room in Dubai.[1] The assassination attracted international attention over suspicions that it was sanctioned by the Israeli government and carried out by Mossad agents holding fake or fraudulently obtained passports of several European countries.[2]


Biography of Mahmoud Abdel Rauf al-Mabhouh


Mahmoud Abdel Rauf al-Mabhouh (Arabic: محمود عبد الرؤوف المبحوح; February 14, 1960[1] – January 19, 2010[2]) was a senior Hamas military commander and one of the founders of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.
Al-Mabhouh was killed in the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel in Dubai on January 19, 2010, having arrived in the country earlier that day from Syria. It is suspected by Dubai policethat he was murdered in his hotel room, with accounts of the cause of death ranging from suffocation to electrocution. Controversy has arisen over evidence indicating that his death may have been an Israeli government-sanctioned assassination, and the alleged assassins' use of fraudulently obtained European passports.[3]

Emirates vows to punish killers of Al-Mabhouh

DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates vowed on Sunday to bring the killers of Hamas commander Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh to justice and urged European countries to thoroughly investigate the abuse of passports of its citizens by the assassins. Al-Mabhouh, one of the founders of Hamas' military wing, was found murdered Jan. 20 in a hotel room in Dubai.
